1. Starting July 1, 2023, Florida public agencies and private employers with twenty-five or more employees must use the E-Verify system to verify employment eligibility of new employees.
2. Paper Form I-9’s alone are not sufficient under the new law, and employers must retain E-Verification documents for three years from the employee’s date of hire.
3. Employers must certify compliance with the E-Verification requirements once per year on their tax returns.
4. Enforcement of the new law will start on July 1, 2024, and employers found to be noncompliant may face fines of $1,000 per day until the noncompliance is rectified.
