Pool drownings occur when an individual is unable to safely exit a pool or body of water and succumbs to drowning due to asphyxiation or inhalation of water into their lungs. Near-drowning cases involve victims who are either rescued or are able to save themselves. However, if they have experienced a prolonged period without oxygen, they can still suffer severe and permanent injuries.
Another common pool-related injury arises from diving accidents. Incorrect diving techniques or diving into shallow water can result in fatal injuries or lifelong spinal cord and brain damage. Furthermore, inadequate maintenance of pools can lead to individuals slipping and hitting their head, ultimately falling into the water and becoming unable to escape. Additionally, a person’s hair or other body parts can become ensnared in a drain or other pool components, potentially resulting in fractures or other injuries.
