The Court may inquire about the contents of your petition and seek clarification. The Court will make a decision on whether to grant a temporary order based on the information provided in your petition and your responses. Inform the Court if you wish to have the opposing party excluded or if you require temporary child support. Even if the Court does not grant a temporary order of protection initially, it may be possible to obtain one later. If you are unable to afford legal representation, you can request for the Court to appoint an attorney for you.
The Court will inquire about your preferred method of serving the documents. (The various options are detailed below.) The Court may issue a warrant to bring the opposing party before the Family Court immediately. Warrants are issued under specific circumstances, such as when there is a threat to your safety or the safety of your child.
