A fixed cost retainer refers to a set price that you pay for the legal service, regardless of the duration of the representation. This allows you to better manage the associated risks. With a fixed cost retainer, you are guaranteed to only pay a predetermined amount for the service, irrespective of the workload. However, in the event that your case is resolved quickly, you may end up paying a higher hourly rate. Nevertheless, this would indicate a swift victory. It’s not as straightforward as it seems (of course not). Fortunately, this complexity actually works in your favor! Rather than paying one single fee, you instead deposit a fixed amount and the law firm deducts it as the attorneys complete specific stages. For example, they might withdraw a portion once they finish the demand letter, another portion when you file with the EEOC, and so on. In this way, you only pay for a particular phase or if your case gets resolved.
