What expenses will be covered by insurance regarding lost earnings following a car accident?

In Florida, all drivers are required to have $10,000 in Personal Injury Protection (PIP) as part of their insurance coverage. This means that if you are involved in an accident, your own insurance will provide PIP benefits regardless of fault. Under PIP, you are entitled to receive 60 percent of your lost earnings, up to a maximum of $10,000. Despite the good news that you can still be compensated for lost wages even if you have sick leave, it is important to note that your entire PIP coverage is $10,000. Considering the immediate medical expenses you may have, it is unlikely that you will receive the full amount of $10,000, unless your chosen legal representative reserves it exclusively for lost wages, excluding medical bills. Moreover, if you have received medical treatment on a lien basis, meaning that the doctors will get paid out of your settlement, they will be compensated prior to you receiving any money for lost wages.
It is essential to be aware that not all drivers opt to have PIP coverage for lost wages. Although it may reduce your insurance costs in the short term, by doing so, you forfeit your eligibility to receive compensation for lost wages in the event of an injury.
