What if I’m uncertain about the status of my relationship?

Determining the state of your relationship can be challenging. You may be clinging to memories of happier times in your marriage, hopeful that the relationship will return to that state. You might be staying together for the sake of your children, although this might not be in their best interests if the relationship is unhappy or even abusive.
It’s possible that you can’t identify the root causes of the problems while you’re still in the relationship, or you might consciously ignore the warning signs. Fear of change and upheaval in everyone’s life could also contribute to avoiding the issues you both face.
Instead of immediately seeking legal guidance for a divorce, consider individual counseling as a means of exploring your emotions and future aspirations. An impartial person can explain what is considered “normal” and help you evaluate your options, potentially resolving family problems and saving your relationship if it’s worth salvaging.
In some cases, it may be feasible to find ways to contain the issues or reduce conflicts, allowing you to move forward with your lives.
