What is a diminished value claim?

In essence, a diminished value claim refers to a claim filed against the property damage coverage of the negligent party to recover a portion of the depreciated value of a car involved in an accident. After a car has been in an accident, it inevitably loses a percentage of its worth. In pursuing a diminished value claim, the objective is to recoup as much of the depreciated value as possible.
