What is an occupational disease?

An occupational disease is a disease unique to a specific industrial process to which an employee is not commonly subjected or exposed and is acquired during the course of employment. Occupational diseases are typically acquired during and arising from employment, often developing over a prolonged period. Asbestosis serves as an illustration of an occupational disease.
