What is the ideal location to store my officially signed estate planning papers?

Where should I store my estate planning documents?

The recommended choice is likely a secure deposit box as it offers protection against theft, fire, unintended misplacement, and various forms of damage or peril. However, one potential concern is the accessibility of the box after your demise. If you opt for storing your estate planning documents in a secure deposit box, it is advisable to designate a joint holder who can access the box.

I suggest keeping your estate planning documents at home with your other crucial paperwork. I do not advise storing them in a safe deposit box. Safe deposit boxes can be challenging to access after someone passes away. Opening the box often requires a court order, which can be both costly and complicated. By keeping the documents at home, they are more readily accessible. Moreover, our legal organization maintains electronic copies of all the documents signed by our clients.
