When is it advisable to review an estate plan?

I recommend that you have your estate plan reviewed every few years, at the very least. Things change in your life. When there is a significant event, such as a death, it’s definitely a time in your life when you should have your estate planning documents reviewed. Maybe you lose a spouse, maybe you lose a child that you’ve designated to serve as an agent or a fiduciary under your documents, at that specific time you should have your documents reviewed to have those particular individuals that you’ve now lost replaced with other individuals that you trust.
During the review of these documents, you might also want to consider determining whether or not you have long-term care options in place. If you don’t, then that’s a good time to have your estate plan documents reviewed, to safeguard those assets for your use and also to secure future long-term care benefits if they become necessary.
